On November 21, 1984 demonstrations begin outside the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C. and continue on an almost daily basis, as anti-apartheid protesters demand a stronger anti-South Africa policy from the United States government.

From its inception the Great Ras Tafari Nation was heavily involved in the struggle against apartheid. In fact many people learned about the brutality of apartheid and the incarceration of Nelson Mandela by listening to protest chants penned by Ras Tafari reggae artists. Divestment now! was the slogan, Ras Tafari “never cease the fire until…”.
