Emancipate yourself from mental slavery;"Oh what a great day that will be when all Africans and Africa are truly free…."
On This Day May 25, 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, African Liberation Day was established as an annual holiday in various countries in Africa, and the world.
On 25th of May 1963, thirty leaders of thirty-two independent African states met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and signed the founding charter of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). At this meeting, the date of Africa Freedom Day was changed from April 15th to May 25th, and Africa Freedom Day was declared African Liberation Day (ALD).
African Liberation Day was established five years after the first Conference of Independent African States, which was held (15th of April, 1958) in Accra, Ghana. The Conference called for the founding of African Freedom Day, a day to mark each year the onward progress of the liberation movement, and to symbolize the determination of the People of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation.
Since 2013 (Golden Jubilee) the recently established African Union has recognized May 25th as Africa Day.
The theme for 2016 is: "Building a better Africa and a Better World".
DARC Foundation wishes all Ithiopians over the world a healthy and prosperous African Liberation Day 2016. DARC also encourages the citizens of the Great Nation to use this occasion to teach a female and male youth the history of the OAU and the importance of Unity.
