DARC Ethiophile Chronicles
On this day
On 25 February 1937, SA artist Daniel (Dan) Sefundi Rakgoathe was born in Randfontein in the then Transvaal province. Rakgoathe went on to be the first full-time student in the fine arts section at Rorke's Drift. The art centre at Rorke's Drift began during Apartheid, with the aim of nurturing the unique artistic heritage of Africa.
Later, Rakgoathe was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and completed an MA degree in African Studies at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has exhibited his work locally and internationally, in countries such as England, Denmark, USA, Australia and Germany.
