On this day
22 March, 1953; 2,500 Tribesmen are arrested in Kenya as part of the continuing crackdown by British authorities against the Mau Mau. Four days later, close to 100 people were killed and scores of others injured at Lari in Kiambu region when Mau Mau freedom fighters attacked the area. The attack came to be known as Lari massacre. Among the casualties was chief Luka from Lari, who was known for ill treating his own people as an indication of his loyalty to the British government.
