On this day

May 6, 1886 African from America invented the tricycle. Matthew Cherry wanted to create a type of transportation that anyone could ride without depending on balance like a regular bicycle. M.A. Cherry was a man that made many devices in the velocipede category and event car parts such as the fender. M. A (Matthew) Cherry he was born on February 5, 1834.

M.A. Cherry's 1st major device was a velocipede and consisted of a metal frame upon which were attached two or three wheels. Someone sitting on the seat of the apparatus could propel themselves forward at moderate speeds. This evolved to what are now known as the bicycle and tricycle. The Tricycle was mostly used by preschoolers and a variety of adults.

Tricycles have several purposes and is used in different countries. In Asia and Africa they are used for commercial transportation and deliveries. In the united states and Canada they are used for shopping, exercise, and recreational purposes. Today, many children learn how to ride first using a tricycle (3 wheels) before advancing to a bicycle (2 wheels).
